âLatino male voters shunned Kamala Harris because they think âa woman belongs in the kitchenâ – Radio host
The owner of a Hispanic radio station in Pennsylvania, USA has claimed that Latino men didnât vote for US Vice President Kamala Harris because they have a âmentalityâ that says a âwoman belongs in the kitchen.â
Victor Martinez, who also hosts a show on his La Mega station in Allentown, told MSNBC that Latino men âwouldnât want a woman presidentâ â" which is why they voted in droves for the eventual winner, President-elect Donald Trump.
âThe man, heâs the one, the provider. And weâre the boss, and we still, unfortunately, have a lot of Latinos with that mentality where the woman belongs in the kitchen,â Martine said during an interview with anchor Nicolle Wallace.
But Hispanic men in the key swing state, which was pivotal in Joe Bidenâs victory in 2020, said the economy was the deciding factor in them switching over to Trump this time around.
âPrices went up, food went up, everything went up,â Miguel Garcia, who lives in North Philadelphia, told CBS News.
Exit polling by both NBC News and CBS News showed that Harris notched around 55% of the Hispanic vote in Pennsylvania, compared to roughly 45% for Trump â" about a 15 percentage-point jump from how the former president fared in the state in 2020.
Also exit polling of nationwide results showed Trump received 54% support from Hispanic men compared with 44% for Harris.
âIt was the Latino men who decided that they were going to vote for Donald Trump. And I will dare to say that itâs the Latino man who wouldnât want a woman president,â Martinez said.
Trump also scored a shocking victory in a Hispanic-majority Texas district that has voted for Democrats for more than a century winning Starr County with more than 57% of the vote.
