The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has said Nigeria’s situation would have been much worse if not for the power of prayer, insisting that without the constant intercession of believers, the country would be in a far more terrible state.

Speaking on Sunday, June 1, during the church’s monthly Thanksgiving service and special prayers for security and paramilitary officers at the RCCG headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, Adeboye stressed that prayers have held the country together despite its many challenges.

Addressing skeptics who question the power of continuous prayers and fasting, Pastor Adeboye said;

“Some say, ‘You’ve been praying and fasting â€" where is the result?’ I laugh. If we had not prayed, Nigeria would have been in a far worse state. Let’s not stop.”

He reminded the congregation that divine intervention still governs human affairs.

“There is a God who rules in the affairs of men. If those praying would pause for just one week, the difference would be terrifying. Keep praying. God controls the hearts of kings,” he stated.

Preaching on the theme “Shadow of the Almighty,” the revered cleric highlighted miraculous instances that, in his words, reflect the unique spiritual covering over the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

He noted that RCCG enjoys divine preservation and has consistently been shielded from disasters since its inception.

“I never preach church or denomination, but there is something peculiar about the Redeemed Christian Church of God. There is a shield over the RCCG â€" unseen but undeniably present,” he said.

He referenced a building in the United States where an RCCG house fellowship meets.

Despite a flood that swept through an entire row of 15 houses, only the one hosting the fellowship was untouched.

“House number eight, with the RCCG sign, was the only one spared. House after house was flooded, but house number eight â€" the only one with a sign that read, ‘House Fellowship of RCCG holds here’ â€" remained untouched. That is not a coincidence â€" that is divine covering,” he explained.

Adeboye also recalled the fire outbreak at Otedola Bridge in Lagos earlier this year, where a fire consumed surrounding buildings but left an RCCG structure unharmed.

“Buildings before and after were destroyed, but the RCCG building stood. That’s not ordinary,” he stated as the church media team displayed images of the incident.

He urged Christians to remain steadfast in their faith and prayers, especially in uncertain times.

“Your safety is in God. His protection may not be visible, but it is always present. Whether young or old, in peace or in crisis, the Almighty covers His own,” he assured.

Earlier in the service, Pastor Folu Adeboye led an emotional prayer session for Nigeria’s peace and wisdom upon those in leadership.

“Let us ask God to have mercy on our president and give him peace, so he may find joy in his tenure,” she prayed.

The Thanksgiving service also paid special tribute to security and paramilitary officers, reflecting RCCG’s commitment to interceding for the safety and well-being of the nation.
