Diddy acquitted of racketeering and sex trafficking
Hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy†Combs has been found guilty of two counts of transportation for prostitution in a high-profile federal trial.
However, the jury acquitted him of racketeering and both sex trafficking charges, sparing him the possibility of a life sentence.
The jury, which began deliberations on Monday, reached verdicts on four of the five charges by Tuesday.
The final decision â€" on the racketeering charge â€" came early Wednesday morning, concluding with a not guilty verdict.
Combs appeared in court alongside his family, who showed visible emotion as the verdict was read.
Despite avoiding the most serious charges, the guilty verdicts still carry serious consequences.
Each count of transportation for prostitution holds a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, meaning Combs could face up to 20 years if the judge decides to impose consecutive sentences.
However, the court may choose to allow them to run concurrently.
Defense attorneys are pushing for Combs’ immediate release pending sentencing, a move the prosecution opposes.
The judge is expected to rule on the request following formal submissions from both sides.
After the ruling, Combs turned to the courtroom gallery and clapped, while supporters responded with applause.
The sentencing date has yet to be announced.
