Man City ready new record deal to retain Rodri

Manchester City are set to offer midfield stalwart Rodri a bumper new contract that would make him the club̢۪s second-highest earner after Erling Haaland.

This move comes as part of a broader effort to fend off interest from Real Madrid, who remain keen on signing the Spaniard.

According to Fabrizio Romano, City plan to extend Rodri̢۪s contract until 2029.

Despite missing a large chunk of the 2024â€"25 season due to an ACL injury, Rodri returned late in the campaign and featured at the Club World Cup.

His resilience and leadership have reportedly strengthened his case for a future captaincy role at the Etihad.

City are keen to avoid the risk of Rodri entering the final two years of his current deal without a clear commitment, especially with Real Madrid monitoring closely.

Club executives see him not just as a midfield anchor, but also as a generational leader.

Though Madrid may revisit their interest by 2026, City believe the proposed deal, financially and symbolically, will persuade the 29-year-old to stay. The final decision now rests with Rodri.
