Newcastle refuse Isak exit after missing out on Sesko
Newcastle United have informed Alexander Isak that he will not be sold this summer, despite the striker’s desire to join Liverpool.
Liverpool had a £110m bid for the Sweden international rejected, with Newcastle’s Saudi-backed ownership maintaining throughout the transfer window that the player is not for sale.
The decision has reportedly left Isak furious, and he has been told by manager Eddie Howe to train away from the main squad until the situation stabilizes, reports The Telegraph.
Isak, who has three years left on his contract, previously trained alone at former club Real Sociedad during the Magpies’ pre-season tour of Asia.
Although he is now back at the club’s training facility, Howe said he cannot be involved with the group for the time being.
“We’d love the player to be with us… but I don’t see the situation changing for Aston Villa [Newcastle’s season opener],†Howe stated on Friday.
Reports suggest Newcastle have offered Isak a new contract that may include a release clause for next summer.
The club are still in the market for another striker but insist their stance on Isak’s availability will not change.
Liverpool were aware of Newcastle’s firm position before submitting their bid, while the Magpies have missed out on striker targets Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko.
Newcastle hope to reintegrate Isak into the squad once tensions ease.
