The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has confirmed that Hamas has released all 20 living Israeli hostages as part of a historic prisoner exchange agreement between both sides.
In a statement issued on Monday morning, October 13, the IDF announced that the freed hostages had safely crossed back into Israel from Gaza, bringing an end to a tense and emotional standoff that had captivated global attention for weeks.
According to the IDF, the released hostages were immediately received by Israeli medical teams for initial health assessments before being transported by helicopter to various hospitals across the country for further treatment and reunification with their families.
Among the freed captives are Alon Ohel, Guy Gilboa-Dalal, and Omri Miran, who were among the first to be released earlier in the day. Miran, 48, was abducted from his home in Nahal Oz during the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack. Heartwarming photos shared by the military showed him embracing his wife, Lishay, after months of separation.
In a separate statement, Israel’s Foreign Ministry confirmed the names of 13 additional hostages released by Hamas, including Elkana Bohbot, Avinatan Or, Yosef-Chaim Ohana, and Bar Kupershtein, who was abducted while working at the Nova music festival.
Meanwhile, buses carrying dozens of freed Palestinian prisoners were seen arriving in the West Bank city of Ramallah and the Gaza Strip, according to the Hamas-run Prisoners Office. Israel is releasing more than 1,900 detainees as part of the current ceasefire and exchange deal.
