“I’m proudly Igbo, I don’t pray they ever release Nnamdi Kanu” – Lady
An Igbo lady has stirred strong reactions on social media after publicly declaring that she does not pray for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The lady, identified on X (formerly Twitter) as Her Excellency (Ada), said that although she is proudly Igbo, she supports the continued detention of Kanu.
Her Comment Follows Sowore’s Protest
Ada’s comment came shortly after the Nigerian police disrupted the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest in Abuja. The demonstration was organised by human rights activist Omoyele Sowore and other supporters calling for Kanu’s release.
During Monday’s protest, police reportedly fired teargas to disperse the crowd. Several protesters were arrested, including Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, his brother, and others.
“Sowore Is Desperate for Attention†â€" Ada Claims
Reacting to the protest, Ada criticised Sowore, describing him as someone desperate for attention. She claimed that the Igbo people never asked him to stage any protest on their behalf.
She wrote: “Sowore is just one who is desperate for attention. The Igbos on Facebook are laughing at him because we did not send him message.
“I’m proudly Igbo and I don’t pray they ever release Nnamdi Kalu.â€
Mixed Reactions Trail Her Statement
Ada’s post sparked heated discussions online, with many users expressing opposing views.
Ikuku said: “You speak for yourself and, hence, are entitled to your opinion.â€
Chiukwujioke wrote: “Yes, I don’t support Sowore. But hey, Kanu should be released.â€
Fodio replied harshly: “STFU, you stupid fool. Every Igbo man wants MNK released except the evil ones, and you’ve just shown us where you belong.â€
Chiazoka Ibe commented: “Post your NIN for confirmation. A claim without evidence is useless. Anybody can claim to be anything and the gullible will believe without question.â€
Araba added: “Shame to the Igbo people! Others protect their own, no matter their crimes and infractions. The Igbo trade their own. The wise men have since departed the East for the West.â€
Innocent John stated: “The worst mistake you made is putting Mazi Nnamdi Kanu into your problem. Your prayer won’t work; millions are praying for him already.â€
Chidike Udeh offered a different perspective: “They shouldn’t release him, reason being? Beyond the IPOB issue, he’s being illegally detained. The court ordered his release, so what’s the prayer about really? Let’s think objectively and remove sentiments.â€
