Those close to her said she stood by her husband through his political journey and remained a symbol of unity and peace within the Shagari family even after his death.
Her passing marks the end of an era for the family of Nigeriaâs first executive president
Her death comes just three months after the passing of Chief Audu Ogbeh, who served as Minister of Communications under Shagariâs administration.
Ogbeh died on Saturday, August 9, at 78, with his family describing him as âa man of integrity, service, and dedication.â
The closeness of both deaths has drawn emotional reactions from Nigerians who remember the Shagari administration as a defining period in the nationâs democratic history.
Brief Look at Shagariâs Legacy
Shehu Shagari served as Nigeriaâs first executive president after General Olusegun Obasanjoâs military government handed over power to a civilian administration in 1979.
His presidency marked the beginning of the Second Republic before it was abruptly ended by the 1983 military coup.
Despite its short duration, Shagariâs government remains significant in Nigeriaâs political history.
Tributes and Burial Arrangements
The Shagari family has expressed sadness over Hajiya Suturaâs passing, thanking friends, relatives, and well-wishers for their condolences and prayers.
