Nigerian artist Adekunle Gold recently opened up about a deeply emotional moment in his life. 

According to Naija News, the “Many People” singer shared on a podcast that the last time he cried was just a few months ago while walking down the street. 

The tearful experience occurred as he watched his daughter, Deja, perform for the first time through a video call. 

Adekunle Gold revealed that the mix of pride and longing he felt in that moment was overwhelming, knowing he couldn’t be physically present for such a special milestone. 

He reflected on the sacrifices that come with pursuing a successful career while trying to stay connected with family. 

The singer also mentioned that this powerful experience influenced the creation of his song “My Love is the Same.” 

He said: “When was the last time I cried? That was the last time I cried. Like two, three months ago. Do you remember what it was about? Oh yeah, Deja was performing and I wasn’t there, so they called me on video. So they called, showed me, and it was her first performance.

“I’m like, nah, this is crazy. It’s like the price you have to pay for building and doing this thing that you have to do, and also, of course, looking after your family. Yeah, that’s one of the reasons I wrote ‘My Love is the Same.’ I wouldn’t know what people go through. It’s crazy. Throwing it down, being confident, I’m like, oh damn, I wish I was there. Yeah, I started to cry.”
